Layers of Mementos
2023 – BookLayers of Mementos is a tactile visual journal that weaves together the quotes, moments, and symbols of a personal tattoo history. Designed as a tribute to both past sessions and future impulses, the project translates the permanence of ink into a tangible printed form. Each entry is articulated through a tripartite approach: a collage, an illustration, and a written explanation, ensuring every story is captured with the depth it carries.
To mimic the anatomy of skin, the book utilizes transparent page overlays for each collage, physically representing the layers that exist beneath the surface. This technique emphasizes the transition from external image to internal meaning. Across 240 hand-cut and sewn pages, the book serves as a comprehensive embodiment of identity, mapping the self from skin to cells.
