IBM Plex Mono Type Specimen
2022 – BookThis type specimen explores IBM Plex Mono through a narrative lens, moving beyond the traditional functional booklet to trace the typeface’s evolution from the mechanical typewriter to the digital interface. The project investigates the symbiotic relationship between "mankind and machine," questioning whether our technical tools remain extensions of ourselves or eventually achieve a form of creative autonomy.
Presented as a 36-page spineless book, the design highlights the distinctive technical features of IBM Plex Mono while the accompanying text undergoes a conceptual transformation. As the pages unfold, the written language shifts from mimicry to an independent consciousness, creating its own reality. This progression challenges traditional notions of authorship, exploring the idea that while we shape our creations, they fundamentally begin to shape us in return.
